The 7th Contracting Squadron at Dyess Air Force base is responsible for acquiring millions of dollars’ worth of goods and services annually for the US Air Force. Recently they were named the Secretary of the Air Force small-business special achievement award winner. Between Oct. 1, 2011, and Sept. 30, 2012, the 7th Contracting Squadron obligated more than 95 percent of contracts to small businesses, spending in excess of $64 million.
They are also responsible for requesting bids and awarding contracts for new construction projects. Some of these contracts for new buildings are large and complex. There are many other smaller contracts for modifications and alterations to existing buildings and numerous maintenance and repair projects to keep the base and all the buildings mission ready at all times. It is a big job and they rely on local contractors and business for these tasks.
There are many local Big Country businesses that have been active and successful in doing business at Dyess. Many begin as sub-contractors and work their way into increasingly larger and more complex projects. The 7th Contracting Squadron is always looking for local businesses to submit bids especially as the prime contractor. They are seeking quality work at a fair price, not necessarily the “low” bid.
