Alert Employee Stops ID Theft
It was just another day on the job for the construction crew working for Harris Acoustics. They were under a deadline to update, remodel and paint a building for a new tenant. What they hadn’t counted on was what the previous tenant had left behind. A filing cabinet full of customers personally identifiable information (PII).
The former tenant was a finance company that had gone out of business, so the information in the old files were an Id Thief’s dream. The files were chock full of copies of social security cards, drivers licenses, utility bills etc. everything needed to steal the credit identity of hundreds of Abilene folks.
Those on the construction crew knew that just taking the contents of the filing cabinet and dumping it into the dumpster was not the right thing to do. They made a call to BBB explaining their plight. Thankfully the good Samaritans at Shredding Services of Texas came to the rescue and agreed to shred the contents of all the files as a service to Abilene and the people who had information in those files.
The definition of character is doing the right thing even when no one is looking. Harris Acoustics and Shredding Services of Texas took a little time to prevent what could have been a nightmare for many people.
